how old is your cat in human years?

Enter your cat's age. We do the maths properly - not the times-seven myth.

how cat years actually work

The old "multiply by seven" rule is a dog thing, and it is wrong for dogs too. Cats mature fast and then coast: a one-year-old cat is roughly a 15-year-old human, a two-year-old is about 24, and every year after that adds around four human years. That is the convention used by veterinary bodies, and it is what this calculator uses.

what the life stages mean

Kitten (under 1): chaos in its purest form. Junior (1-2): a teenager who owns nothing and judges everything. Prime (3-6): peak cat - fast, glossy, insufferably confident. Mature (7-10): the dignified middle years, mostly spent supervising. Senior (11-14): entitled to every sunbeam. Geriatric (15+): a living legend who has outlasted several of your furniture arrangements.

does indoor or outdoor matter?

For life expectancy, hugely - indoor cats commonly live 12-18 years, while outdoor life is riskier. The human-years conversion stays the same either way; it describes maturity, not prognosis. Whatever their age, they believe they are in charge, and they are correct.
