Most people can name three or four breeds and guess the rest. That is not a criticism, it is simply that the majority of cats on earth are magnificent moggies rather than pedigrees, so there is rarely a reason to learn the difference between a Somali and an Abyssinian, or between a Devon Rex and a Cornish Rex.
This test uses real photographs of thirty-three breeds. Some are obvious, a Sphynx is hard to mistake for anything else. Others are genuinely difficult, and a few are near twins that even experienced owners get wrong. If you score badly, you are in good company.
the ones that catch people out
The classic traps are the pairs. The Devon Rex and the Cornish Rex both have curly coats and enormous ears. The Somali is simply a long-haired Abyssinian. The Birman and the Ragdoll are both pale, blue-eyed and fluffy. And the Chartreux, the Russian Blue and the British Shorthair are three different blue-grey cats that people mix up constantly.
